Author: Stan Matthews
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Coming of Age
Format: Ebook/Paperback

As Mark Christopher grows up in a small railroad town during the Great Depression, he dreams of doing something special with his life. Instead, he must face one tragedy after the other as war looms. First, his parents die and then his brother while serving in the Pacific.

When the war in Europe ends, Mark’s sister sends him to live with their grandmother and her son. To please them, Mark is baptized in a Baptist church. While enrolled in college, he befriends a Wallabot Indian who unsuccessfully tries to save Mark’s soul. Despite their religious differences, their friendship continues as Mark is offered a post-graduate scholarship contingent upon his admission to the ministry. Although Mark applies, he secretly believes he is unsuited. After he accepts a student pastorate position in a nearby church, he falls in love and marries. But when he shuns church leaders’ advice and leads a group of black migrants to integrate the county fair, Mark is thrown in jail where he is forced to reflect on his life, his choices, and whether what has been done can be undone.

Mark Christopher is the tale of one man’s faithful journey through poverty and war and tragedy and opposition as he searches for his destiny and meaning in his life.

Inside the Book:

The Golden Age of Charli
Title: The Golden Age of Charli
Author: Jena C. Henry
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Fiction
Format: Ebook/Paperback

Charlotte McAntic spent her thirties, forties, and even fifties in peace and harmony aligning her marriage, mortgage, careers, and children. As she stumbles into a new phase of life—also known as the Golden Years—Charli cannot help but wonder where the gold and her husband, Pud, are hiding.

Pud is happily cruising down the retirement path that, for him, leads straight to the golf course. While Charli spends her days at home cleaning out closets and the basement, she yearns to gaze deeply into Pud’s blue eyes and remember all the reasons why she fell in love with him thirty years ago. Unfortunately, the only thing Pud is eying is the next fairway. Knowing there is more to savor in retirement than silver-hair shampoos, senior discounts, and hernia surgery, Charli embarks on a quest to do whatever it takes to spend retirement in the embrace of the man she loves. But is it too late for happily ever after?

In this humorous novel, a high-energy wife and her solid guy must learn to adjust to a new chapter in their lives and find their way back into each other’s hearts after their retirement begins with a jolt.

Interview

Can we start out by telling us whether you are published for the first time or are you multi-published?

I published The Golden Age of Charli- RSVP, the first book in the series in September, 2015. The second book in the series, The Golden Age of Charli-BMI will be released soon! I all ready have the copies- so excited!!
When you were published for the first time, which route did you go – mainstream, small press, vanity published or self-published and why or how did you choose this route?

Good question! My writing journey started when I decided to finally try to write what I called “a book-length document.” As I wrote, I began to feel more positive about my product. One day, while I was using the online thesaurus, an ad popped up- “Are you writing a book?” “Yes… YES!” I shouted. I clicked the link and soon received a call from a consultant at iUniverse. After a long discussion and plenty of questions from me, I chose iUniverse because they are a hybrid self-publisher. They offer a large team of professionals and services- all types of editing, cover design, marketing and promotion. This was the best of both worlds for me- I could move forward and achieve my publishing dream, but have access to all the services I would need to produce a high quality project.
How long did it take you to get published once you signed the contract?

Less than six months. I needed heavy editing for my first book- but much less for the second manuscript! Yay!
How did it make you feel to become published for the first time and how did you celebrate?

I was thrilled, satisfied, and excited, and eager to learn more about the book and publishing world. I celebrated by starting to write the second book in the series. I also had a lovely launch party and book signing, complete with a specially crafted Charli cocktail.
What was the first thing you did as for as promotion when you were published for the first time?

Before my book was published, I used to wake up at night and worry about how to market and promote my book. iUniverse offered me a variety of marketing services and I have used many of them. I love marketing my book. The first thing I did, after my launch party, was to take a course in social media so I could start to build my platform. Since my first book was released, I have worked 4-6 hours a day on social media and my website and blog.

Book Feature: Palindrome by E.Z. Rinsky

INSIDE THE BOOK

Title: Palindrome
Author: E.Z. Rinsky
Publisher: Witness Impulse
Pages: 384
Genre: Mystery/Suspense
Format: Ecopy/Paperback

Private Eye Frank Lamb’s business is simple: He finds things. Be it the world’s hottest pepper seed in a South American dictator’s safe or a pair of Italian art forgers sipping Prosecco in a Miami hotel room, he delivers the goods and collects his check, never with a smile. Work is work, and he doesn’t let it get in the way of the life he’s made for himself and his ten-year-old daughter, Sadie.

But when a staggeringly beautiful woman offers him a small fortune to find a cassette tape, curiosity gets the better of him. It contains, she explains, a recording her sister’s kidnapper made of her last three minutes on Earth. She conveniently fails to mention the unsettling effects the tape is rumored to have on listeners.

Frank takes the case, and enlists the help of reclusive tracker Courtney Lavagnino to pick up a trail that’s been cold for five years. As their search leads them through a horrifying labyrinth of murder and madness, it becomes clear they’re chasing much more than a memento.

Book Feature: The Prevention of Crohn’s Disease by Gilles R.G. Monif, M.D.

Inside the Book:

The Prevention of Crohn's Disease
Title: The Prevention of Crohn’s Disease
Author: Gilles R.G. Monif, M.D.
Publisher: AuthorHouse
Genre: Health
Format: Ebook

Prior to 1936, Crohn’s disease was a rare and unrecognized disease entity. Today, the United States is the midst of a rapidly growing epidemic. It is estimated that between 800,000 and 1.2 million citizens are currently afflicted. The unanswered question is WHY? In the 1990s, circumstantial scientific data inferred a potential causal relationship between Crohn’s disease in humans and mycobacterial pathogen in domestic animals, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). When it was documented that MAP survived pasteurization and was potentially present in milk, infant formula, and powdered milk, a global precautionary alarm button should have been pushed by those who govern in the public trust.

PREVENTION OF CROHN’S DISEASE describes MAP’s journey across the zoonotic bridge between animals and humans and the unique circumstances by which it allegedly produces disease.
