Danger Wears White and Lady Beresford’s Love Feature

Title: Danger Wears White

Author: Lynne Connolly

Publisher: Lyrical Press

Genre: Historical Romance

Format: Kindle/Paperback

“Full of political intrigue, steamy romance and plenty of twists and turns…a well crafted story that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. If Lynne Connolly isn’t on your auto-buy list, she should be.”~Sharon Cullen, author of Sebastian’s Lady Spy

Hoping to live down her family’s connections to the traitorous Jacobite cause, Imogen wants nothing more than a quiet life in the country. When she stumbles upon a wounded man, the white cockade in his coat tells her he’s a Jacobite, and a danger to the crown. Yet there’s something about him she can’t resist . . .

In search of a document on behalf of his powerful family, Tony is shot and left for dead. Secreted away to a hidden chamber, he finds himself both a guest and prisoner of a beautiful but mysterious woman. What she wants and who she serves, he cannot know. But what he does understand is the desire burning strongly between them. And that neither of them will be spared until their lust is sated.

When the action moves to London, suddenly it’s Tony who has to act to save Imogen. Forced to become a lady in waiting to Princess Amelia, she is in peril from the Jacobites, who are convinced she is their salvation. Only the strength of Tony and Imogen’s love can save them now.

I write sensuous historical romance as Lynne Connolly, and contemporary and paranormal romance as L.M. Connolly

I was born in Leicester, England, and lived in our cobbler’s shop with my parents and sister. It was an old house and most definitely haunted, but I didn’t find out until I left that my great uncle had hung himself in the living room! But I think our ghost might have been older than that. It was built on the site of the old Roman cemetery, and the land had been constantly inhabited, being in the centre of town. Then, when the council bought the house from us to build a road, my grandfather retired and my father went and worked for the Post Office. My mother was a sample machinist; that is, she worked with designers on the prototypes (models or samples) of garments. So I was very well dressed! We bought a relatively modern house in the country, and my mother was blissfully happy. It’s all very well living in a large old house, but it’s a dreadful task to keep it clean and warm!

My mother’s side of the family are Romany gypsies, although sadly we haven’t any of the old trailers that are so astonishingly beautiful. I was taught to read the Tarot cards, and I usually use two packs; the Rider pack for simple readings and the Crowley Thoth pack for the complex stuff.
I’ve always had an interest in the paranormal and it’s been a delight to be able to put some of this into my novels.

My other huge interest is the historical. I love all periods of history, but my favorites are the Tudor and Georgian eras. I research and research, because I love it. I will travel miles to see a new variation on the Palladian mansion! I am fascinated in finding out how people lived then, and creating a credible story with people who lived in past ages.

Lexie Dunne

Lexie Dunne is a woman of many masks, all of them stored neatly in a box under her bed. By day a mild-mannered technical writer and by night an adventuress and novelist, she keeps life interesting by ignoring it and writing instead. She hails from St. Louis, home of the world’s largest croquet game piece, and SUPERHEROES ANONYMOUS is her professional debut into the world of caped crusaders, a journey that started when her father took her and her brother to see The Rocketeer.

Getting her to return a phone call is impossible. You’d have better luck sticking a Dr Pepper under a propped up box and waiting nearby, string in hand.

Why Johanna Charette Isn’t As Much Fun as Jackson Roth

I’m so glad to be here today guest blogging for Bent Over Book Words because I want to straighten out why my female protagonist Johanna Charette isn’t as much fun as her partner Jackson Roth.

Every great couple survives because each individual brings complementary strengths to the relationship. In the Second Chronicles of Illumination, as in all the Library of Illumination adventures, Johanna plays the straight “man” to Jackson’s joking. Readers are always telling me how ‘great’ Jackson is, and how ‘mature’ Johanna is, adding that she doesn’t even seem like a teenager. It’s because Johanna is a serious book nerd who found solace from her miserable childhood at an orphanage, inside the pages of books. The rules at Peakie’s Foundling Home were stringent, and Johanna rarely got to play games or have fun. The home also frowned on individuality, so Johanna had to learn how to fit in. She did it by emulating the adults around her. And she learned to play it safe, not daring to do anything unconventional until the very end of her residency there.

Jackson’s childhood was nearly as miserable, but he had his brother Chris and his sister Ava to play around with, and a loving, if financially stressed, mother who encouraged his sense of humor. Sometimes there was barely enough money to put food on the table, but the Roth boys survived by out-joking each other to take their minds off what they didn’t have. Their younger sister was their greatest fan. Even their mother couldn’t help but smile at some of their antics. Jackson, being the oldest, was expected to be the “man” of the house. He learned how to face adversity and quickly diffuse problems. It forced him to become daring—and he took risks that many other people would turn their backs on.

So while both Johanna and Jackson both grew up poor, they had very different life experiences. Johanna is very insular. Her upbringing forced her to develop an acerbic wit and dry sense of humor, often meant only to amuse herself. Jackson is much more likely to joke around in an open, carefree way that will elicit laughs, and acceptance, from onlookers. People respond to him.

Consider them two sides to the same coin. And like every famous duo, you’re going to prefer one partner to the other. You know if they were playing “good cop, bad cop” Johanna would be the bad cop because it’s the role she’d be most comfortable playing. Jackson is the more likeable of the two so, of course, he would play the good cop. There’s a line in Second Chronicles of Illumination when a flight attendant calls him “Sir.” His reply? “I’m not a ‘sir.’ I’m Jackson.” He’s real. He’s humble. And he’s cute.

But don’t think Johanna plays second fiddle to Jackson. She’s intelligent, methodical, and passionate about what she does. She’s the “prime” curator—a tower to be climbed; an ocean to be crossed; a force to be reckoned with; and appearing to be unattainable gives her a certain amount of allure.

Maybe the only person who likes Johanna better than anyone else—is Jackson. He’s absolutely under her spell. She was his mentor. She scolded him when he made mistakes, but never shut him out. He learned from her and learned to depend on her. And in turn, she learned to depend on him. They provide each other’s support system. They’re a team. And they bring out the best in each other. And that’s what makes them a great couple, even if you think Jackson deserves better!

Thank you Bent Over Book Words for having me as a guest blogger. The Second Chronicles of Illumination came out on June 30th and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Yu can learn more at www.libraryofillumination.com. It’s time for me to get back to writing my next book, aptly titled, Third Chronicles of Illumination.

A Little Boy’s War by Roy Bartlett Book Blast – Win a $25 Amazon Gift Card!

252654_Personalized Banner Ad_L1

A Little Boy's WarTitle: A Little Boy’s War

Author: Roy Bartlett

Publisher: AuthorHouse

Pages: 190

Genre: Biography/Autobiography

Format: Kindle

In this autobiographical reminiscence of the war years, Roy Bartlett relates the experiences of a young boy living in the West London suburb of Ealing, particularly during the sustained German Luftwaffe ‘Blitz’ on the capital in 1940 during which he sustained injury. Millions of people in London and other cities, children as well as adults, survived the horrors and rigours of the war.

Many accounts have been written, but few from the viewpoint of a child.

Aged nine years at the outbreak of war his initial understanding of events was shaped by excitement, evacuation for a short period and what his mother could conjure up to eat from the meagre food rations.

As Roy grew older, under ever-worsening conditions, his comprehensions of events broadened.

This ensuing account of family life on the home front is a fascinating and absorbing blend of factual information and personal experience of the grim reality of those dark days, yet softened by subtle humour and boyish escapades that bring a smile to the reader.

An person who lived through the period of history and the younger generations that follow, will find this narrative to be an informative and valuable historical account of a young lad’s life throughout that terrible time.

Now That the Dust Has Settled by Athanasio Dzadagu Book Blast – Win a $25 Amazon Gift Card!

Title: Now That the Dust Has Settled

Author: Anthanasio Dzadagu

Publisher: AuthorHouse

Pages: 372

Genre: Biography/Autobiography

Format: Kindle

In this book, I try to explore why one section of the Catholic Community connected with the late Archbishop Chakaipa was overtaken by great remorse when he died, while another went into jubilation. This leads me into the examination of what kind of person Archbishop Chakaipa was. I do this in the context of his family background and his priestly and Episcopal ministries. He was of the Unendoro clan, with a history tracing back to Karanga roots. In his Seminary years, he wrote five Shona novels which became very influential in developing Shona literacy. He earned enduring respect across the entire Zimbabwean nation for this achievement. Within Church circles Archbishop Chakaipa’s name is synonymous with the policy of self-reliance, which was his signal achievement in the Archdiocese of Harare. He was determined to see the development of indigenous Zimbabwean writers, frustrated that the world of ideas in Zimbabwe was dominated by Eurogenic (of European origin) missionaries. In his view such Eurogenic intellectual domination undermined Zimbabwean and African independence. In the book, I argue that while Archbishop Chakaipa was a hero, indeed one deserving of canonisation as a Catholic saint, true respect for him should also acknowledge his negative qualities.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A book on Archbishop Chakaipa written by Athanasio Dzadagu should make interesting reading for three major reasons. First, the author knew Archbishop Chakaipa personally. At the age of five, he first encountered Archbishop Chakaipa when the latter was his parish priest. Interaction between Athanasio and Archbishop Chakaipa continued until the archbishop’s death in 2003. What adds to the book’s appeal is that Archbishop Chakaipa himself viewed Athanasio Dzadagu as the best person to write a book about him, as communicated courtesy of a Mai (Mrs) Muchada. Secondly, many people in the Archdiocese of Harare in Zimbabwe are keenly awaiting the appearance of the book, including those who have gone into Diaspora. Finally, the book provides an opportunity for indigenous Zimbabweans to express their own opinion of Archbishop Chakaipa, considering the fact that the written commentary after his death covered only Eurogenic opinion. Regardless of having recently left the priesthood, Athanasio Dzadagu is still highly respected among members of the Zimbabwean Catholic Community in England and Wales, which he founded in 2001. There are several among these who have, in the past, urged him to write books as a way of informing an even wider community of people.

Dressed to Kill by Lynn Cahoon

Dressed to KillTitle: Dressed to Kill
Author: Lynn Cahoon
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Format: Kindle

Jill Gardner—owner of Coffee, Books, and More in the tucked-away town of South Cove, California—is not particularly thrilled to be portraying a twenties flapper for the dinner theater murder mystery. Though it is for charity…

Of course everyone is expecting a “dead” body at the dress rehearsal…but this one isn’t acting! It turns out the main suspect is the late actor’s conniving girlfriend Sherry…who also happens to be the ex-wife of Jill’s main squeeze. Sherry is definitely a master manipulator…but is she a killer? Jill may discover the truth only when the curtain comes up on the final act…and by then, it may be far too late.

Could you please tell us a little about your book?

Dressed to Kill is the fourth book in The Tourist Trap Mysteries. With Greg and Jill’s relationship heating up in book 3, I wanted to deal with the fashionista in the closet, Greg’s ex-wife Sherry. So this is Sherry’s introduction to South Cove. Unfortunately, her new rich boyfriend is killed, and Sherry’s a suspect.

What are you currently working on?

The Cat Latimer series, book one, is called A Story to Kill (working title.) I love building a new town where new imaginary friends can live. The house Cat’s remodeling into a writer’s retreat, bed and breakfast is based after an old mansion in Boise. I loved riding my bike past the house and dreaming of what it might be like to live there.

What are some of your long-term goals?

Currently the long-term plans are around building a writing career and saving for retirement. That’s what happens when you reach a certain age. J

But in a file on my computer desktop is the beginning of a woman’s fiction novel that I keep playing around with and hope to get written sooner than later.

If you could go back and change one day, what would it be?

As I look back on my life, there are days that I wish I had been kinder. Days that I wish I’d been stronger. And days that I wish I’d spent with others who are no longer here. But all of these days made me the person I am today. And I’m kind of happy with this person. The heartache we feel, makes us ready for the love that comes later.

Are you a different person now than you were 5 years ago? In what ways?

2010 I was just starting to take my writing seriously. I’m a great starter. And I have amazing ideas. It’s just in the execution where I have problems. So, I’ve learned some hard lessons along the way. It’s better to be done than be perfect. A little bit a day adds up to a lot when you’re staring at a deadline. And writing a book takes a community. (God bless editors.)

What is the most important lesson you have learned from life so far?

I guess not to take myself or my problems so seriously. I’m a worrier and I know when things are getting out of control because I start to have stress dreams. Usually they surround me trying to herd kittens. And failing.

What is your favorite past-time?

It is and always has been, reading. I love getting lost in a story or revisiting old friends when I pick up a book to read again. Currently, most of my ‘reading’ is audio books during my commute. But when we go south to the cabin, I’ve got a few paperbacks in hand and I set in front of the fire pit and transport myself to another world.

That’s what I hope people take away from reading my books. I want them to want to visit South Cove and wonder what’s going on with the characters.

Thanks for having me over.

Lynn Cahoon

I love happy endings. My stories are all about  life in small town America and building the family that you deserve. You know, the people who love you unconditionally – even when you’re less than perfect.

Personal stuff?  I’m a seven-year breast cancer survivor.  I’m married to my own hero who shaved his shoulder length hair when I lost mine during chemo. I’m the proud mom of a computer engineer (although I don’t know what that means.) And I have four fur babies.

I’m an active member of MORWA, my local RWA chapter.

My debut was THE BULL RIDER’S BROTHER released June 4th, 2012 from Crimson Romance. Cowboys aren’t easy to love—but they sure are easy on the eyes. I bet you’ve felt the same way my heroine Lizzie has, at least once or twice. Since that time, THE BULL RIDER’S MANAGER, came to your favorite digital store. If flying was hell, waiting to fly was purgatory. Both are available in print as well as digital. And the long awaited bull rider story is finally out and available.  Check out THE BULL RIDER’S KEEPER!

For those of you who like a little magic in your stories — The Council Series starts with A MEMBER OF THE COUNCILA rogue hunter, a clueless witch and a mission to save an unknowing world.   The second book, RETURN OF THE FAE, continues Parris and Ty’s adventures, and is a 2014 RONE finalist.

2013 brought MARRIAGE NOT INCLUDED, a organic farmer’s daughter meets corporate seed executive. Set in Idaho, this story takes me home.

2014 sees more big news – e-Kensington released The Tourist Trap Series – with GUIDEBOOK TO MURDER kicking the fun off in April. MISSION TO MURDER arrived July 31st, and a third book, IF THE SHOE KILLS, November 10th.  Set in a small coastal California town, I love these who dun it’s with a touch of romance.

Summer of 2015 – DRESSED TO KILL and KILLER RUN will be arriving.

I’ve come a long way from the little girl on the school bus who used to cut out pictures from Teen Beat to illustrate my tales of love and loss. And yet, not so far.

So pull up a chair, pour a cup of coffee, and let’s chat about writing, love, life, and the pesky things that get in the way of our goals and dreams.

I’m glad you found me.

Virginia Taylor is an Australian writer of contemporary romantic comedy, romantic suspense, historical romance, short stories, and children’s stories.

After a stint at the South Australian School of Art, I worked for an advertising agency,  re-trained as a nurse/midwife, and then married the man of my dreams. Two children later, I began writing romance. While awaiting publication, I painted and designed various theatre sets with a fellow School of Art graduate. In 2013 I sold my first novel-length story.
